Do you provide care for NDIS clients?

Individuals with disabilities have many risk factors requiring nutrition interventions eg. failure to thrive, obesity, growth retardation, metabolic disorders, poor feeding skills, drug-nutrient interactions, partial or total dependence on enteral or parenteral nutrition6.

We have created professional development resources which address nutrition interventions as well as working with NDIS clients.

  1. The NDIS overview is a free webinar which describes what the objectives of the NDIS are, and how dietitian support fits in with the goals of the NDIS.
  2. NDIS Frequently asked questions is a free webinar presented by Aimee McLeod-Taylor, APD. It includes how to register with the NDIS, how to navigate the first consultation and how to find out more about a particular disability.
  3. NDIS Nutrition support: case study is presented by Carmel Curlewis, APD. Carmel uses the NDIS Participant Goal: To be Healthy and Well to describe how input from dietetic services can impact on functional and social outcomes for her case. This webinar clarifies how we can be successful with NDIS funding for our clients with a disability.
  4. Successful nutritional management in clients with intellectual disabilities presented by Jodie Ellis, APD. Jodie explains the steps in nutritional assessment of a client with an intellectual disability and how to tailor our practise to achieve successful interventions.
  5. The Academy of Nutrition and dietetics have a position statement on Nutrition Services for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Special Health Care Needs. Included is a very useful summary describing the potential nutrition issues for a range of disabilities.
