Nutrition in endometriosis and fertility. Dian Shepperson Mills, Registered Nutritionist, UK
Dian is a nutritionist based in the UK who specialises in endometriosis and fertility. For decades Dian suffered from debilitating endometriosis. She underwent multiple surgeries and medical treatments before researching the role of diet and nutrition in endometriosis. With the life changing effects that diet and nutrition had on her health and subsequent remission of endometriosis she undertook formal qualifications in science and nutrition.
Since then, she has founded the Endometriosis and Fertility clinic, written two books on the subject, presents on nutrition and endometriosis and fertility internationally and continues her research.
Her presentations describe the significance of nutrition in preventing and managing endometriosis and sub-fertility. Her approach is not orthodox in that she takes each of her client’s conditions individually, educates them around diet and uses nutritional supplementation to correct quite specific nutritional deficiencies.
Dian's presentations provide material which provide thought for management. The strategies may not be proven in double-blinded crossover RCT’s, but they are common sense. Using knowledge of the nutrient content of foods, she makes dietary suggestions in line with the nutritional physiology occurring in endometriosis and sub-fertility. The results she has with improvements in her clients with endometriosis and fertility issues are a testament to her individual, caring but slightly unorthodox approach.
