Interpretation of hypercholesterolaemia. Presented by A/Prof Ken Sikaris
Ken gave a comprehensive explanation of lipid profiles and their role in the development of cardiovascular.
How would you interpret the following lipid results?
According to Ken..."Her cholesterol is fine. Her LDL level is fine. Her HDL is diabolically bad for a woman. It should be above 1.3. Her triglycerides are well above 1.5 and her Total Chol:HDL ratio is 7.4. So even though her cholesterol seems normal and there’s not much LDL, we would predict most of her LDL is in the small dense form and she is in huge danger."
How would you interpret the following lipid results?
Ken's interpretation of this 51 year old womans lipid profile..."7.4 Cholesterol. LDL is not too bad. Should we treat it? HDL is ridiculously good. The Total Chol:HDL ratio is as good as it gets. If we are treating this as hypercholesterolaemia we are mistreating this woman."
