Five tips from the Sustainable Eating conference ICD Sept 2016
1. Watch the SustainablEating trailer. This movie was created for the ICD 2016 conference, it was directed by Carlos Sabater Calafat and produced by a team of dietitians/nutritionists of the Spanish Foundation in collaboration with a group of young film directors, who are always excited to work on film projects of social interest.
The aim was to make a film to tell the citizens of the world that our way of eating can change the planet and can help people who work at sea, on land, on farms, near where we live. Screening locations and dates for SustainablEating are yet to be announced.
2. Read the Lancet series on Planetary health as a background to understanding the issues involved in the need to create a sustainable food supply as recommended by Kate Gegan . Kate is a US dietitian who spoke at the conference and features in the SustainablEating movie.
3. Consider that each UN sustainable development goal for 2015-30 is being integral with the provision of food and nutrition. This was highlighted In a sustainability workshop facilitated by Clare Pettinger and Liz Atherton
4. Examine the role of the ICDA in educating and promoting sustainable food systems through our profession. In her keynote address ICDA President Professor Sandra Capra declared: “There is a need for a strong dietetics profession worldwide if we are to contribute to the improvement of the food and nutrition systems across the world. This is a social responsibility”.
