Pain science in action FREE. Presented by Daniel Arbilla AEP
Principles for movement prescription
A foundational, yet deep, dive into providing safe and evidence-based exercise prescription to clients who experience chronic pain. In practice, we are either incidentally seeing people who experience chronic pain, or perhaps you are interested in working with this group in a more intentional way. Pain is a normal and necessary human experience, and how we respond to it matters.
The scene is set with the pain principles leading us towards a fundamental conclusion that we can’t separate the biopsychosocial components from the human, so we must create safety through our context, interventions and reactions. Our space and connection might mean as much as our movement prescription.
Daniel offers various specific and conceptual ideas that create safety through environmental and relational factors. The conclusion- that clients need to prove to their nervous systems that they are safe. As practitioners, we guide them in this process. We respond to them in ways that reinforce their safety.
As with all conditions, challenging scenarios are expected. Providing helpful responses can mean we are demonstrating curiosity in their experience, and sharing the decision-making process with them. Reinforcing the value of modelling, right throughout Daniel opts to show us what this looks like in action rather than telling us - evoking curiosity, a steady confidence and a desire to learn more.
