Protein essentials for AEPs. Presented by Evangeline Mouratidis APD AccSD

Marvellous macro or misguided myth?

It’s the 21st century’s go-to macronutrient that signals health, satisfaction and muscle gains. Our clients are interested in protein, and so it’s something they ask us about. As Exercise Physiologists and movement professionals, we want to respond within our scope, and with confidence. Refresh your foundational understanding of protein as a nutrient, and explore some over-arching evidence-based principles to support your clients navigate their food queries.

Peeking into the role of a Dietitian - we can consider that meeting an individual's need for protein can be calculated with precision, and yet can never really be determined. Requirements exist within a range and are dependent on the individual’s present goals. This supports us in adopting some key principles-amount;  distribution; source; timing- to conceptualise an adequate intake.

Nutrition culture often demands dichotomous and exacting rules for food, and we can play a part in resisting this. Evangeline offers clear tenants that support us responding accurately to nutrition-related questions, without reinforcing didactic and harmful nutrition rules.

Evangeline Mouratidis is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Accredited Sports Dietitian. She completed a Master of Dietetic Practice and Bachelor of Health Sciences at La Trobe University and has further developed her skills by completing courses in sports nutrition and functional medicine (AFMCP). Evangeline has also completed the ‘Low FODMAP Diet for IBS’ training course with Monash University.

She is passionate about adopting a holistic approach in improving a person’s health and well-being, aiming to address the underlying causes of problems instead of adopting band-aid solutions.
Evangeline also trains and competes in Powerlifting. As a strength athlete herself, she has vast personal experience in nutrition strategies for training and competition performance, recovery, and ‘making weight’.
