Non-weight centric performance measures Presented by Alicia Edge APD
Apply reflections from a professional sporting teams case study to your dietetic practice
Dietetics has traditionally organised itself around a weight-centric paradigm. As practice approaches are broadening, the ways that we measure nutrition impact will be changing too. Compeat Performance Co-CEO Alicia Edge, APD offers insight to the experience of shifting their focus while working with elite sport teams. She shares the surprising response to moving from body-based measures to behavior-based metrics of performance and well-being.
Learn about:
- How trying to control the uncontrollable can contribute to anxiety, disordered eating, and a power imbalance between practitioners and clients.
- Challenging the norms: redirecting focus to lead performance and early behavioural wellbeing data
- Reflections on change, discomfort, and professional growth; embracing curiosity, listening, and adaptability in our work
This presentation covers:
• The problem with traditional (lag) measures of performance, health and progress
• Using nutrition lead measures that focus on behaviours
• The impact of what you measure on shaping behaviour, culture and collaboration
• Change: one step at a time
