Severe and enduring eating disorders Presented by Elizabeth Stathakis, APD

"Help, what do I do?"

Working with a person who is living with a severe and enduring eating disorder is a distinct, and under-researched, area of practice. The skills needed extend far beyond focussing on food and weight; it calls on the clinician to have compassion, creativity and to be collaborative. This is a challenging area of practice, and one that requires ongoing training and supervision.

Learn about:

  • how Severe and Enduring EDs need a different approach
  • access to care challenges
  • the importance of an informed ‘forced choice’ and non-negotiables plan with no surprises

This presentation also covers:

  • What is a severe and enduring eating disorder?
  • Client journey – how’d they get here, where are they going?
  • Who needs to be on the treatment team and what’s the plan?
  • What can I do when there is no change in my client’s progress?
  • I keep putting my foot in it - what to say and what not to say to clients.
