Men’s health and nutrition, Joel Feren, APD

Men are under-represented in the field of nutrition and dietetics, with less than 5% of dietitians in Australia being male. As one of these dietitians, Joel believes it is essential to equip men with the tools and strategies to help them improve their physical and mental health.

Men have a lower life expectancy and are over represented in just about every serious health issue. As health professionals, it is important that we have the skills to effectively work with men.

In his presentation Joel describes:

  • An overview of men’s health in Australia including, cardiovascular health, prostate health and eating disorders in men
  • Challenges and barriers facing men
  • Ways to engage men in health prevention and lifestyle change
  • Practical tips to use when working with men
  • Further resources
