An update on pain science in action with Daniel Arbilla, AEP
It’s been a year since Education in Exercise released the very popular and ever-relevant Pain science in action presented by Daniel Arbilla AEP of The Knowledge Exchange and Barbell Psychology.
Pain science in action is freely available and accredited by ESSA for 1 CPD point
We caught up with Daniel for a chat. And there’s no surprise that he offers humility, calm and bundles of thoughtfulness.
What’s happening in the pain science space the moment?
I can't comment on the entire pain science space, only on my small bubble of clinicians in private practice.
I've been noticing clinicians having deeper reflections on their role as a healthcare professional as they change their clinical frameworks to embody coaching and guiding over fixing and feeling responsible for a client's pain relief.
What’s one lesson you have learnt over the last 12 months?
Naming and acknowledging the discomfort I experience amongst the uncertainty of clinical practice, and the value of investing time with my own coaches and guides.
What skills are valued in pain science practitioners?
Active listening, inspiring curiosity, adapting and modifying according to an individual's responses and needs, and co-creating a safe space and rehab journey.
What are you doing differently since you presented this PD?
Less rushing into goal setting and more time discovering a person's values
Focusing on developing and growing a community of clients and clinicians with shared values of humility, care and science-based practice
Learning more about social justice issues and how they intersect with clinical practice
