The Low Carbohydrate High Fat diet
Caryn Zinn, PhD is a New Zealand registered dietitian who has an extensive range of clients as well as being a senior lecturer at the Auckland University of Technology. Initially skeptical about LCHF Caryn is now an expert on this diet. About three years ago colleagues at Auckland University encouraged her to research the physiological effects of carbohydrate reduction on weight management, glycaemic control and lipid profiles. This research clarified her position and she has been using the LCHF approach with many of her insulin resistant and diabetic clients ever since.
The LCHF diet is a topic which is creating a lot of interest at the moment. In her webinar Caryn explains her position and helps us think about some professional questions around LCHF. As dietitians, should we be suggesting a lower carbohydrate diet to our insulin resistant and diabetic clients? And if we should, what level of carbohydrate should we be advising? Is it possible to follow the AHEG as well as reduce carbohydrate intake?
