Gestational diabetes mellitus: an update: Associate Professor Susan de Jersey AdvAPD, CDE

What’s new and what endures in gestational diabetes mellitus

Earlier this year, the 2025 ADIPS Consensus Recommendations for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) were released. The updated Australian guidelines raise diagnostic thresholds, aiming to reduce overdiagnosis and focus care towards women who will benefit most. Associate Professor Susan de Jersey provides an overview and a rationale for the changes. Susan emphasises the value of compassionate, person-centred care that recognises emotional wellbeing throughout a GDM diagnosis and beyond.

Learn about:

  • 2025 ADIPS Consensus Recommendations new glucose thresholds for diagnosing GDM
  • The impact and challenges of a GDM diagnosis for pregnant women
  • Alternative approaches to oral glucose tolerance testing for individuals who require it, including those who have had bariatric surgery
