About the Presenter
Anitra Carr is a Research Professor and Director of the Nutrition in Medicine Research Group in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Otago Medical School in Christchurch, New Zealand.
After completing her PhD, Anitra undertook an American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Linus Pauling Institute, Oregon State University, USA. Whilst there she produced a number of high impact publications on the role of vitamin C in human health and disease which have helped inform international dietary intake recommendations for the vitamin.
Following a return to New Zealand, Anitra began a translational research program comprising human intervention studies investigating the potential health effects of oral and intravenous vitamin C in acute and chronic conditions such as respiratory infections, cancer, obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes.
Anitra is considered an international key opinion leader on the role of vitamin C in human health. She is currently ranked the #1 vitamin C scholar in the world, with more than 100 highly cited peer-reviewed publications, and has been awarded a Gold Medal by the University in recognition of her sustained Research Excellence.
Anitra has served as an Associate Editor, Guest Editor and Editorial Board Member for the journals Nutrition Research, Nutrients and Antioxidants. She is also passionate about educating healthcare professionals and the general public around the roles and importance of vitamin C, including establishing an accredited Continuing Medical Education e-learning course for healthcare professionals.
