About the Presenter:
Dr Robyn Brown is an NHMRC Peter Doherty Fellow at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health (University of Melbourne). She completed a Bachelor of Commerce/Science (Honours) in 2004 at University of Melbourne, then a PhD at Monash University in 2010. A year later, she was awarded a Sir Keith Murdoch Fellowship from the American Australian Association to undertake postdoctoral training at the Kalivas Lab (Medical University of South Carolina, USA) where she contributed to a number of breakthrough studies on neuroplasticity in cocaine addiction. It was here that she established an independent line of research investigating addiction-like neuroplasticity in relation to overeating high-fat, high-sugar foods. Upon her return to Australia, Robyn obtained an NHMRC project grant to further pursue this line of research. Her laboratory uses a combination of techniques — behavioural pharmacology, optogenetics and electrophysiology — to probe the neural mechanisms underlying addictive behaviour.
