About the presenters
Trish Veitch started her working life as a professional chef, working in Shanghai, Bangkok and London. She moved into education, teaching commercial cookery dietary requirements and nutrition before embarking on her Master’s degree in the Monash University Department of Gastroenterology. Her research is based on looking at the role of prebiotic fibre in relation to wellbeing and gut health. Her supervisor is Dr Jane Muir.
Dr Jane Muir is a trained dietitian with a PhD in biochemistry and has more than 20 years’ experience in the area of nutrition research. Her major research focus has involved understanding the important role of indigestible carbohydrates (including resistant starch and dietary fibre) in the health of the gastrointestinal tract. She is also involved in research into the role of poorly absorbed short chain carbohydrates (FODMAPs) and the genesis of symptoms in patients with functional gut disorders including irritable bowel syndrome.
