About the presenters

Fiona Florakx is an accredited practising dietitian (APD) with a keen interest in food security. She has worked for more than 10 years in community, public health and local government organisations. Her current role assists local government practitioners to create healthier food and nutrition environments as part of COAG National Partnership Agreement on Preventive Health in Victoria. Previously she was part of VicHealth’s Food for All program to improve community food security. She has also been actively involved in developing and providing nutrition advice and programs to indigenous Australians and other disadvantaged population groups.

Leah Galvin has an honours degree in food science and nutrition from Deakin University. She started her professional work around the issue of food security more than 10 years ago, beginning with her thesis. She has conducted research and worked on program and policy implementation to address local barriers to accessing healthy food in local and state governments, the community sector and community health. In recent years her work has focussed on capacity building and strengthening networks for practitioners. She currently works as a consultant and recently relocated to Southern Tasmania with her family, where she is contributing to building food resilient communities.
