About the presenter

Kate Grimshaw was a member of the research team which conducted the study ”Food additives and hyperactive behaviour in 3-year-old and 8/9-year-old children in the community: a randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial”, published in The Lancet in 2007. This scientific study led to six artificial food colours being phased out in the European Union. Kate has a degree in Human Biology and a postgraduate diploma in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. In 1995 she completed her MSc in Human Nutrition and in 2003 gained a post-graduate diploma in Allergy. She joined the University of Southampton in 1999, specialising in maternal and infant nutrition and paediatric food allergy. In 2012 she completed her PhD looking at infant feeding practices in the first year of life and the development of food allergy. She is sought after internationally as a speaker on food allergy and child nutrition.
